Awards for Academic Achievement Support Strong Economy

Post-Secondary Students Earn Education Scholarships

Fifty-four students have been recognized for academic excellence through the awarding of $57,000 in scholarships from the Provincial Government to support them in their post-secondary studies.

“I extend congratulations to all students receiving these scholarships. This financial assistance will support them in their studies, which will help meet a growing labour demand in Newfoundland and Labrador. These scholarships assist students and the province to ensure we have the highly qualified graduates needed for this fast-growing economy.”
- The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills

Scholarships awarded include the Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarship given by the Department of Advanced Education and Skills to students registered in a course of study at Memorial University, Marine Institute, and College of the North Atlantic. Other awarded scholarships are the Senior Jubilee Scholarship, Dr. Vincent P. Burke Scholarship, Dr. Arthur Barnes Scholarship, Reverend Dr. Levi Curtis Scholarship, Dr. William W. Blackall Scholarship and the Ronald K. Kennedy Scholarship.

A complete list of recipients is provided in the attached backgrounder.

“The Provincial Government is leading the way to make post-secondary education affordable and accessible. This fiscal year, over $466 million is being invested to enhance skills and training at the post-secondary level, and to maintain a tuition freeze at Memorial University and College of the North Atlantic. Post-secondary education is a proven path to prosperity and sustained employment.”
- Minister O’Brien

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
