Renovations for Six Social Housing Units in St. John’s

Xtreme Renos and Construction Ltd. has been awarded a $324,000 contract to provide exterior and interior renovations to three Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) duplexes on Chafe Avenue, in the Shea Heights area of St. John’s.

“We are very proud of the progress and good work that our modernization and improvement program is accomplishing here in this neighbourhood and in communities throughout the province,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister Responsible for NLHC. “This kind of revitalization investment of over $324,000 shows the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing safe and affordable social housing to those in greatest need.”

The work on the six units will involve roof, siding, door and window replacements, and installation of ventilation and heat recovery systems, insulation, electrical and plumbing, as well as interior repairs and painting. The anticipated completion date for the project is April 2014.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $10 million for NLHC’s Modernization and Improvement Program. Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is the province’s largest landlord, with 5,556 affordable rental units province-wide.
