NLHC Homes to be Renovated in Marystown
A contract valued at $183,000 has been awarded to Wally Drake’s Trucking Ltd. to provide exterior renovations and repairs to six Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) homes in Marystown.
“The Provincial Government is committed to improving access to affordable housing for people in need and our investment of $183,000 will make a meaningful difference in the lives of tenants,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister Responsible for NLHC. “Modernization and improvement projects like this in Marystown and in communities across the province ensure the availability of affordable housing for the future.”
Renovations on the Smallwood Crescent units include roof, siding, door and window replacements, installation of kitchen and bathroom ventilation systems, new attic insulation, as well as concrete foundation repairs. The work is scheduled for completion in February 2014.
“This work is very welcomed in Marystown,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin-Placentia West. “It’s good to see the improvements that have been made to our social housing and the direct positive impacts they’re having on our tenants.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $10 million for NLHC’s Modernization and Improvement Program. Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is the province’s largest landlord, with 5,556 affordable rental units province-wide.
