$1.5 Million in Road Work Announced for Exploits
Penny Paving Ltd. has been awarded a contract for approximately $1.5 million to upgrade sections of the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) in the Exploits area. The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works, announced the road work today in Bishop’s Falls.
“The TCH is the foundation of our transportation network here on the island portion of the province,” said Minister Davis. “The Provincial Government is proud to announce this $1.5 million contract and to continue to invest in highways to meet the needs of the people of the province today, and into the future.”
The tender calls for the upgrading and repaving of sections of the TCH, from the Sir Robert Bond Bridge to the Grand Falls Industrial Access Interchange. Upgrading and paving of Route 352-11 Moore’s Cove Road is also part of the construction contract.
“I am very pleased to join Minister Davis today to announce these upgrades for the Exploits region,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “This is good news for the people of the area and this announcement shows our government’s commitment to continue to provide safe roads for tourists and local residents.”
Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, Provincial Government spending will exceed $866 million on infrastructure projects and will generate 5,330 person years of employment. Investments are being made in all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador in key areas such as roads, bridges, marine services, health, education, municipal works, buildings and aquaculture.
