Bay d’Espoir Highway to Receive $1.8 Million in Transportation Improvements
The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works, joined
Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune, in St. Alban’s today to
announce a contract award which will see $1.8 million in upgrades for the
Bay d’Espoir Highway.
“The Provincial Government has invested significantly to strengthen the
transportation network throughout our province,” said Minister Davis. “Our
$1.8 million investment in the Bay d’Espoir Highway supports our
infrastructure improvement plan as we continue to help to drive economic
activity and prosperity of the region.”
The tender has been awarded to J-1 Contracting Ltd. and calls for the
pulverizing and paving of portions of the Bay d’Espoir Highway and the
replacement of culverts at various locations on Route 360 and Route 361-10.
“I am very pleased with the continued improvements to our road network in
the Coast of Bays region,” said MHA Perry. “The economy here is growing
steadily and these investments help to further economic growth, job creation
and help us build stronger communities.”
Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, Provincial Government
spending will exceed $866 million on infrastructure projects and will
generate 5,330 person years of employment. Investments are being made in all
regions of Newfoundland and Labrador in key areas such as roads, bridges,
marine services, health, education, municipal works, buildings and
aquaculture.
