Norman’s Cove Seniors Complex Bridge Access Replaced

The bridge used by emergency vehicles to access the Green Mountain Lodge in Norman’s Cove has been replaced as a result of a $233,000 investment made by the Provincial Government through Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC).

“Lodge residents and visitors can take comfort in knowing that this new infrastructure will provide safe and secure access to the complex for many years to come,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister Responsible for NLHC. “This investment is a good example of our government’s ongoing commitment to support our Green Mountain Lodge housing partner in Norman’s Cove.”

Green Mountain Lodge is one of 61 NLHC supported community partner-managed projects in the province. The former concrete bridge leading to the 12-unit complex was damaged during Hurricane Igor when debris from the storm compromised the pillars of the structure.

“Green Mountain Lodge is situated in one of the most beautiful settings in the province and we are very pleased with the new bridge,” said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. “Our government continues to improve services that are beneficial to the health and well-being of our seniors.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $9.6 million to support community partner-managed housing groups. Since 2009 NLHC has invested $15 million to renovate these housing partner properties. Over the past 10 years the Provincial Government has invested approximately $105 million through the modernization and improvement program to upgrade social housing properties in Newfoundland and Labrador.
