Town of Victoria Receives Funding for Skateboard Park

A $15,000 grant from the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program has been provided to the Victoria Recreation Commission to assist with the development of a skateboard park area.

“With the development of this new park, children and youth in the area will be provided with another opportunity to enjoy physical activities outside,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government is pleased to provide this $15,000 grant as it supports the Victoria Recreation Commission in their efforts to encourage their young residents get out, get active, and adopt more healthy lifestyles.”

The Victoria Recreation Commission is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador: A Recreation and Sport Strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
