Recreation Grant Supports Upgrades to Burlington’s Playground Area
The Town of Burlington’s recreation committee will be adding a new multipurpose court to the community’s playground with the assistance of a $15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.
“It is wonderful to see the town’s recreation committee working together to help residents be more active, and this $15,000 grant will assist with the purchase of the materials needed for the installation of a multipurpose court,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The new area will be used year-round for a variety of activities, thereby providing residents with ongoing recreational opportunities.”
The Town of Burlington Recreation Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“I am very pleased that the community of Burlington is proactive in trying to provide recreational facilities so that all residents can live active, healthy lives,” said Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte - Springdale. “I applaud our government in providing such necessary funds to support the cause.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador: A Recreation and Sport Strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2007, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
