Minister Offers Condolences on Wayne Trask's Passing

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today offered his condolences on the passing of a well-known member of the province's sporting community, Wayne Trask.

"Newfoundland and Labrador has lost a true ambassador of sport with the passing of Wayne Trask," said Minister French. "I offer my deepest condolences to his family during this time. Mr. Trask was a well-known contributor to our sports community, serving as the chair of the 1999 Canada Winter Games held in Corner Brook, as well a former member of the Canada Games Board of Directors. His work and dedication to sport in this province will be missed."

Mr. Trask was named to the Board of Directors (as a member at large) of the Canada Games Council in September 2006. He also served as Chair of the Steering Committee for the Canada Games 40th Anniversary. Most recently, Mr. Trask served as the Chairman of the 2013 Canada Games Hall of Honour Selection Committee and this past January, he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Canada Games Council.
