Capital Grant Will Help Clear the Way for Ice Resurfacing at Cabot Stadium

A new Zamboni will hit the ice at the Bonavista Cabot Stadium with help from a $15,000 grant from the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program.

“This $15,000 will certainly go a long way towards the purchase of this new ice resurfacing equipment,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “With this upgrade, the facility will provide a much improved ice rink for residents and community organizations to participate in various activities such as public skating and hockey.”

Bonavista Cabot Stadium is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“I am delighted with this assistance from the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation,” said Glenn Little, MHA for Bonavista South. “Residents and community groups throughout the Bonavista South area rely on the use of this facility for fun recreational activities and participation in sports, and it is important that we have the equipment to maintain ice resurfacing. It was a pleasure to work with the Town of Bonavista and Cabot Stadium’s manager, Lloyd Stagg, to secure this necessary funding.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the provincial sport and recreation strategy, approximately $172 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
