The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

Three Provincial Boys Ball Hockey Tournaments Being Held this Weekend

Three high school Provincial Boys Ball Hockey teams will be declared champions this weekend. Champions will be declared in Boys 2A, 3A and 4A Ball Hockey.
 
Ten teams will be competing in the Boys 2A Ball Hockey tournament, which is being hosted by St. Lawrence Academy. Competing in the Blue Division, which will be played at the Recreation Centre, will be the host, St. Lawrence Academy, Valmont Academy (King’s Point), William Gillett Academy (Charlottetown), St. Mark’s School (Kings Cove), and Burgeo Academy. The White Division will be played at St. Lawrence Academy. The teams include Gros Morne Academy (Rocky Harbour), St. Joseph’s Academy (Lamaline), Sheshatshiu Innu School, Stella Maris Academy (Trepassey) and King Academy (Harbour Breton). Games start at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday evening and will continue all day on Friday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Crossover games begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, with the championship game scheduled for 12:00 noon.
 
The 3A Boys Ball Hockey is being hosted by Pearson Memorial in Wesleyville. Competing in Division A are the host, Pearson Memorial, Templeton Academy (Meadows), St. Michael’s High (Bell Island) and Dorset Collegiate (Pilley’s Island). Division B teams include Tricentia Academy (Arnolds Cove), Laval High (Placentia), Leo Burke Academy (Bishop Falls) and Harriot Curtis Collegiate (St. Anthony). Games begin at 8:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue all day on Friday. As well on Friday, a skills competition is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and the banquet will be held at 7:30 p.m. Games begin again at 9:00 a.m. Saturday with the crossovers being played at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
 
Eight teams will be competing in the Boys 4A Ball Hockey Provincial tournament being hosted by Ascension Collegiate in Bay Roberts. Schools competing in Division A are the host, Ascension Collegiate, Holy Spirit High (Manuels), Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista) and Stephenville High.   Division B teams include the O’Donel High (Mount Pearl), Menihek High (Labrador City), Mount Pearl Senior High and Gander Collegiate.  Games begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday and will continue all day Friday until the 4:30 p.m. game.  The banquet is scheduled for 7:00 p.m on Friday evening.
 
Games continue at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the crossover games scheduled for 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
 
In addition to the gold and silver SSNL medals, a championship banner will be awarded to the winning team. SSNL believes strongly in the values and principles of sportsmanship. In recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be presented to one deserving person from each team. All teams and officials vote to recognize a team which has displayed great sportsmanship, as well. This team is awarded the Team Sportsmanship Banner.
