St. Bride’s Community Centre Receives Funding for Upgrades

The Town of St. Bride’s community centre will undergo significant renovations with a $15,000 grant provided by the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program.

“This grant will be used to assist with the costs associated with making electrical upgrades to the centre,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to provide this funding as it will support active living in the community by ensuring residents can participate in enjoyable physical activities in a quality facility.”

The St. Bride’s Recreation Committee is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“The Recreation Centre, when completed, will be a great asset to the community of St. Bride’s, and indeed the entire Cape Shore”, said the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister for Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s. “It will provide a unique venue for healthy living, recreation and social activities.”

Budget 2012 provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
