Minister Congratulates Kaetlyn Osmond on National Figure Skating Win
The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today extended congratulations to 17-year-old Marystown native, Kaetlyn Osmond, on winning her first national title at the 2013 Canadian Figure Skating Championships in Mississauga, Ontario.
“As the minister responsible for sport and on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I send sincere congratulations to Kaetlyn for her tremendous accomplishment this past weekend," said Minister French. “She is an inspiration for young athletes throughout the province, and a great ambassador for Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The outstanding young skater won the women's singles Saturday in Mississauga. Previously she won bronze at the Canadian championships, and then went on to capture gold at the Skate Canada International competition in October. The victory has earned her spot on the national team that will compete at the World Figure Skating Championships to be held in London, Ontario from March 11 to 17.
“I am very pleased to see Kaetlyn, a confident young athlete, achieve this milestone,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West. “She is a credit to the young people of the province, and I am sure we will all be cheering for her at the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships.”
