Public Advisory: Wood Harvested for Projects in Labrador Available for Domestic Use

The Department of Natural Resources is advising the general public of the availability of wood for domestic use.

The wood has been harvested for development of the Lower Churchill Project Marshalling Yard site which is located approximately two kilometres from the Causeway along the Trans-Labrador Highway heading south. The wood is cut into eight-foot-lengths and piled outside the entrance to the yard area. Entrance past the gate of the Marshalling Yard is prohibited.

Wood harvested on the North Spur near Muskrat Falls may now be accessed by the general public. This wood is cut to eight-foot lengths and piled on site.

Individuals are advised to be cautious when availing of this wood. Appropriate safety equipment and personal protective equipment should be worn at all times while collecting this material in these areas. There will be increased traffic and activity in these areas so residents are encouraged to be vigilant while loading and transporting wood from the sites. Individuals should not impede traffic on the road while loading vehicles.

This wood is not for sale, gift or barter but meant for domestic use only. In order to transport the wood from the site, a valid Domestic Cutting Permit or a load slip is required. Permits and load slips can be obtained from the District Forestry Offices in North West River and Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
