Enthusiastic Response to National Forest Week

Today, the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Natural Resources, applauded the diverse activities held to celebrate National Forest Week and the forest sector in Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Many and varied events were held all across the province, including nature walks and a Day in the Park for Grade 5 students, a public display at Wooddale Tree Nursery, and presentations by conservation officers,” said Minister Marshall. “Events like these increase awareness of the forest industry and sustainable forest management practices. I thank our Natural Resources staff for organizing these events.”

Trees are Terrific, the theme for National Forest Week 2013, September 22-28, personified the province’s longstanding tie to the forest sector. National Forest Week is an opportunity for people to think about what the forest means to them, whether for economic, cultural or social pursuits.

In many districts during the week, trees were planted in celebration of the rich, natural resource. Photos from some National Forest Week events are available at www.nr.gov.nl.ca/nr/forestry
