New Fire Equipment to Benefit Conception Bay North Region

Through $55,139 in funding from the Provincial Government, five communities in the Conception Bay North area will receive new firefighting equipment. The equipment for the communities of Bay Roberts, Carbonear, Spaniard’s Bay, Upper Island Cove and Victoria will help enhance public safety and fire protection services for residents.

“Our government places great importance on enhancing fire and emergency services for residents,” said the Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services. “The new firefighting equipment announced today throughout Conception Bay North is indeed another positive step toward ensuring volunteer firefighters have the necessary tools and equipment required to perform their duties. Our commitment to these essential volunteer organizations remains strong and today’s investment is once again proof of that commitment.”

Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, the Provincial Government has allocated approximately $380,000 for new firefighting equipment this year. Over 30 communities are anticipated to benefit from the new funding.

“The new fire equipment for Conception Bay North is a tremendous investment by the Provincial Government in the health and safety of residents,” said Glen Littlejohn, MHA for Port de Grave. “The volunteer fire departments in this region are extremely active and very dedicated. I am pleased to see their work being rewarded with new funding to purchase much needed equipment. I offer my sincere appreciation to Minister Kent and the entire Provincial Government for supporting these exceptional volunteers and their fire departments.”

Since 2010, the Provincial Government has invested approximately $2.8 million in new fire equipment throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. More information on the new equipment for the Conception Bay North region is outlined in the backgrounder below.
