$580,000 in Funding Announced for Water and Sewer Upgrades in
the Town of New-Wes-Valley
The Town of New-Wes-Valley will receive $580,000 in funding for water and
sewer upgrades. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Kevin
O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Eli Cross, MHA for Bonavista North,
and Grant Burry, Mayor of New-Wes-Valley.
“This funding will alleviate the problems that the town has been having with
its water and sewer system,” said Minister O’Brien. “It is important that
with this $580,000 investment, we address this key priority area and ensure
that the people of New-Wes-Valley have a reliable system for years to come.”
The Town of New-Wes-Valley will receive $580,000 to complete work on the
local water distribution system. The upgrades to be completed with the
funding announced today will eliminate ongoing issues as a result of the use
of old, private sewer systems.
“Residents have had to deal with a water distribution system which is
failing,” said MHA Cross. “I am pleased to see that the town council has
identified this important issue, and that through funding from the
Provincial Government will be able to upgrade the water system for all
residents.”
Funding for this project is cost-shared with the Provincial Government
providing 90 per cent of the funding and the town of New-Wes-Valley covering
the remaining ten per cent.
“Having a proper functioning water distribution system is vital to
residents’ health and safety and the viability of the town,” said Mayor
Burry. “I am pleased that the Provincial Government is committed to the
well-being of residents and is investing in this important project.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second
year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is
funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is
delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste
water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
