Triton Receives $275,000 for New Firefighting Vehicle and Equipment
The Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced significant support for firefighting crews in the Town of Triton recently.
“I am very pleased to announce over $275,000 in funding for the Town of Triton for the purchase of a new fire rescue pumper and new vehicle extrication equipment,” said Minister O'Brien. “This new truck and equipment will certainly enhance the provision of emergency services to the Town of Triton. Our government puts great importance on enhancing firefighting and emergency services and Budget 2013 certainly shows our continued commitment in this regard.”
The provincial contribution toward both purchases will be 90 per cent of the overall cost. The town will cover the remaining 10 per cent.
"This announcement is great news for the Town of Triton," said Ray Hunter, MHA for Green Bay South. "Residents of the town are very proud of their fire department, which has some very dedicated and longstanding volunteers. I am pleased that the Provincial Government has acknowledged the need for new equipment this year to support the community and enhance safety for residents."
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire trucks and $380,000 for the purchase of firefighting equipment for this fiscal year.
The Town of Triton’s new fire truck will be delivered next year, while the new extrication equipment will be put into service immediately.
