Funding for New Pumper Tanker Announced for Town of Point Leamington
The Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, recently announced $230,000 in funding for the purchase of a new pumper tanker firefighting vehicle for the Town of Point Leamington. The Minister delivered the news to the Point Leamington Fire Department last Thursday, August 8.
“Significant progress has been made by our government in addressing aging firefighting and emergency response vehicles and firefighting equipment throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Minister O'Brien. “This month we continue to deliver on this commitment by announcing more purchases made possible through Budget 2013 and the diligent work of our government in strengthening fire departments for the future.”
The new pumper tanker for the Town of Point Leamington is valued at approximately $230,000, and will be cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the municipality through a 90/10 cost-share ratio. The new truck will go to tender in the coming months and is anticipated to be delivered in the fall of 2014.
“I was very pleased to join Minister O'Brien in announcing a new firefighting vehicle for the Town of Point Leamington,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “It has been an honour to work with the town council and fire department in advocating for this new emergency response vehicle over the past number years. Our hard work has reached a conclusion and the new truck will soon become a reality. This is a big investment and is a great example of the commitment of Premier Dunderdale and the Provincial Government toward enhancing firefighting services for residents of rural Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future contained $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire trucks and emergency response vehicles and $380,000 for new fire equipment throughout the province.
