New Fire Truck Announced for Town of St. Lawrence

The Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, announced funding August 7 for a new fire pumper truck in the Town of St. Lawrence.
 
“This new investment on behalf of our government in a state of the art fire pumper truck is another example of our commitment to supporting municipalities in delivering effective fire protection services for residents,” said Minister O’Brien. “The Town of St. Lawrence is one of eight communities that will receive new fire and emergency response vehicles this fiscal year. Each commitment is a direct investment in the safety and security of residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
 
The new fire truck is valued at approximately $240,000 and will be cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the Town of St. Lawrence through a 90/10 cost-share ratio.
 
“This new fire truck is a welcomed addition to the St. Lawrence Fire Department and will ultimately benefit the entire region,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and MHA for Grand Bank. “I commend the municipality, and in particular the members of the volunteer fire department, for their hard work and dedication in working toward this outcome. This investment will at the end of the day provide a greater level of protection to the residents of St. Lawrence and the surrounding area.”
 
Since 2003, approximately $40,000 has been invested in strengthening firefighting and emergency response in the Town of St. Lawrence Recent investments include bunker gear and other personal protective equipment, as well as new breathing apparatuses.
 
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future contained $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire trucks and emergency response vehicles and $380,000 for new fire equipment throughout the province.
