New Emergency Response Vehicle Announced for Town of Burin
The Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, was on the Burin Peninsula this afternoon to announce a new emergency response vehicle for the Town of Burin.
“This new rescue unit emergency response vehicle will greatly enhance the capacity of the local fire department to respond to situations that arise within the town,” said Minister O'Brien. “Through Budget 2013, our government continues to address the surplus of older firefighting vehicles around the province and invest in new, state of the art equipment in communities that need it most.”
The rescue unit is valued at approximately $210,000 and will be cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the municipality through a 90/10 cost-share ratio. The new truck will be delivered in approximately 12 months once a tender is completed.
“I am very pleased by the news of a much needed new emergency response vehicle being purchased for the Town of Burin,” said Minister Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West. “The community and local fire department are very deserving and I take great pleasure that this day has finally arrived. The people of Burin will be safer as a result of this investment.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future contained $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire trucks and emergency response vehicles and $380,000 for new fire equipment throughout the province. Since 2007, over $200,000 has been invested in bolstering firefighting and emergency response infrastructure in the Town of Burin.
