Carbonear-Harbour Grace to Receive Over $4.1 Million for Infrastructure Improvements

The District of Carbonear-Harbour Grace will receive over $4.1 million from the Dunderdale Government for various infrastructure improvements including recreation, water and sewer and road paving.

“Providing funding for quality municipal infrastructure such as roads and water and sewer is an important commitment of this government,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “I am particularly pleased that we have entered into an agreement to offer $1 million in road work for the Town of Victoria under the 2012-14 Multi-Year Capital Works program.”

In addition, the Town of Harbour Grace will receive over $1.18 million under the Municipal Capital Works program for water and sewer upgrades for Harvey Street and College Lane. Over $2 million has been allocated to Carbonear under the 2012-14 Multi-Year Capital Works program for upgrading and paving Valley Road and water and sewer work for London Road.

Funding is cost-shared based on population, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the total project cost for Carbonear and Harbour Grace and 90 per cent for Victoria.

“This investment to strengthen municipal infrastructure in Harbour Grace, Carbonear, and Victoria will ensure that water and sewer services are reliable, and roads are in good shape,” said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Finance and MHA for the District of Carbonear-Harbour Grace. “Residents and visitors to the area, particularly families and youth, will benefit from these upgrades, and this work will build on investments made in recreational facilities for the 2012 Summer Games.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity, included $130 million over two years for municipal capital works projects. Since 2008, the Provincial Government has invested over $500 million in municipal capital works projects which has resulted in improved municipal infrastructure across the province. These projects have provided municipalities the opportunity to secure, develop and improve infrastructure for residents and support the long-term sustainability of growth and development of communities.
