Investing in Tourism Development Strengthens Economic Opportunities

$130,500 in Funding Supports the Work of Tourism Organizations

Investments totalling $130,500 will be distributed to four Destination Management Organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador to support their regional tourism development efforts.

“The tourism development organizations work with stakeholders to transform local attractions, activities and services into compelling travel experiences for visitors to the province. With increased numbers of tourists visiting Newfoundland and Labrador, there are growing opportunities for economic spin-offs in a variety of sectors including accommodations, food and beverage, program offerings and service. I am confident that with this investment of $130,500, these organizations will further advance the province’s tourism industry, boosting the economy and strengthening opportunities in their regions.”
- The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development

Destination Management Organizations partner on marketing, product development and programs to support tourism activities for their region. Funding will support the Eastern Destination Management Organization Inc., Adventure Central, Western NL DMO Inc., and Destination Labrador in their development efforts that promote their regions as unique multi-seasonal destinations for visitors and residents of the province.

“We continue to work closely with Destination Management Organizations to align marketing programs around our tourism website, packaging program, travelers’ guide, as well as trade shows. These organizations are now playing a new role in destination development and quality assurance. They have made significant progress since 2009, and I congratulate all of them for their commitment. Our partnership has resulted in many gains for the tourism industry and in the creation of a prosperous economy in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
- The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
