Investment of $39,500 Supports Growth in the Province’s Eco-Tourism Sector

The Provincial Government continues its commitment to eco-tourism with an investment of $39,500 in Coastal Connections Limited (CCL), an eco-tour boat and research company operating out of Terra Nova National Park (Newman Sound).

“Coastal Connections Limited’s commitment to the principles of stewardship and sustainable tourism is to be commended,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. “As the only official tour boat operator in Terra Nova National Park, CCL has a stellar reputation for providing a service that caters to the scientific community and educational institutions, as well as to the tourism market. I am pleased that this investment of $39,500 will support their efforts in growing their business and further add to the extraordinary tourism product we offer in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The investment will allow CCL to increase their marketing efforts, acquire a new motor, as well as purchase essential scientific equipment that will be used by students and researchers, improving the services CCL offers the scientific community, while also improving their tourism customer’s experience.

“I often hear that Coastal Connections and their programs are one of Terra Nova’s best kept secrets,” said Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova. “I am sure this investment will bring CCL even more success in offering the high level of educational and eco-tourism product they are so well known for here in the community.”

In operation since 2004, Coastal Connections Limited is committed to the principles of sustainable marine eco-tourism, and provides educational tours and programs on awareness. As an active member of the province’s scientific community, CCL gathers and shares their findings among the scientific community to help increase knowledge and understanding of local ecosystems.

"Thanks to the funding from IBRD, we have been able to expand our services and open up new revenue streams,” said Meghan Negrijn with Coastal Connections Limited.
