$180,100 to Support Improvements to Local Manufacturer
To modernize equipment and improve efficiencies at a local manufacturer of
wood pallets, funding of $180,100 has been provided to A&P Manufacturing
Limited. The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business
and Rural Development, along with the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Speaker of
the House of Assembly and MHA for Trinity North, toured the operation today
in Clarenville.
“With a thriving economy, diverse businesses and opportunities throughout
our province, it is important to invest in companies such as A&P
Manufacturing who are working to modernize operations and capitalize on new
and emerging opportunities,” said Minister Hutchings. “Funding will support
the purchase of new equipment which will streamline and automate the process
of assembling pallets, and secure a value-added wood product which supports
a number of local businesses in the province.”
Funding includes a $75,000 non-repayable contribution, and $86,000 term loan
to support the purchase of an automated remotely-operated machine which will
provide more efficient and safe cutting of lumber for pallet manufacturing.
In addition, funding of $19,100 will support training for production.
“A&P Manufacturing’s continued success and growth will be greatly enhanced
by this investment,” said Mr. Wiseman. “The Adams Family is to be commended
for their commitment to their customers and to the production of a quality
product.”
With the investment, the company will reduce the time it takes to cut lumber
for assembly of the wood pallets from one to two hours to approximately five
minutes with the new equipment.
“Our company has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past number of years and
we are excited to see how our business will expand with the full operation
of our new equipment,” said Melvin Adams Owner/Operator, A&P Manufacturing
Limited. “Our ability to grow has been made possible with the support of the
Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development and we look forward
to working with and servicing other local businesses in order to grow A&P
Manufacturing and support our community”.
A&P Manufacturing Limited has been in the pallet manufacturing business
since 1980 and supports businesses in the manufacturing, mining, fishing and
offshore sectors. The business is located in Clarenville.
