Ambulance Review Public Feedback Form Now Available

Continuing with its commitment to public and stakeholder engagement, the Provincial Government is moving forward with an opportunity for users and the ambulance industry to contribute to the improvement of the Newfoundland and Labrador road ambulance program.

“The ambulance report outlines a series of recommendations to enhance the delivery of ambulance services,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services. “We want to give the users of the ambulance system – the operators, professionals and the public – an opportunity to read the report and express their thoughts on the findings and recommendations. The feedback we receive will help guide the Provincial Government with the development of an implementation plan and lead to the improvement of the road ambulance program.”

The public are invited to provide their input online at www.health.gov.nl.ca/health/ambulancereview.html through email at ambulance-review@gov.nl.ca or by regular mail: Department of Health and Community Services, Ambulance Review, P.O. Box 8700, 1st Floor, West Block, Confederation Building, St. John's, NL, A1B 4J6. Responses will be accepted until Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Participants will be asked to provide general or specific comments on the review; challenges and proposed solutions to the recommendations; and, to identify any recommendations they feel are missing from the review.

In conjunction with the public feedback option, in-person discussions, led by the Office of Public Engagement, are being held with ambulance operators, professionals and stakeholders over the next several weeks.

“As part of the ongoing work of the Office of Public Engagement, we regularly assist government departments and agencies with their efforts to capture the ideas and views of the public, and this information is critically important for effective policy development and decision-making,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement. “This is an important part of the road ambulance review process and we encourage stakeholders and citizens to participate and share their views.”

The road ambulance review was completed by the Fitch-Helleur partnership and was released on October 7, 2013. The review provides a comprehensive overview of the current road ambulance system and makes 10 key recommendations to help create a more effective and efficient ambulance program for Newfoundland and Labrador.
