Report on Provincial Ambulance Program Received by Provincial Government

The report on the Provincial Ambulance Program review was presented to the Provincial Government on Tuesday, August 20. The review was conducted by Fitch and Associates, considered the leading ambulance and emergency services consulting firm in North America.

“I am pleased to provide this update today on the Provincial Ambulance Program review which is an important piece of work that encompasses many areas including the establishment of standards, response times, delivery models, best practices, and governance structure,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services. “The next steps in the process are to closely review the recommendations and develop a plan that will enable us to move forward to deliver optimal service to the people of the province. I look forward to discussing this report with my colleagues over the coming weeks.”

The consultant’s report was developed in collaboration with ambulance associations and service providers; industry personnel; the general public; and, officials from the regional health authorities and Provincial Government.

“This review is intended to provide insight, advice and identify opportunities to improve the overall ambulance system,” said Minister Sullivan. “Once we have had time to read and process the report and its recommendations, we will move forward with a plan to help improve the delivery of these services in our province. The intended outcome of the review is to support patient care in all regions and ensure timely access to quality health care services.”
