Innovative Ideas Benefit Families and Communities
Municipal Government Carbon Footprint Challenge Contest Winners Announced
The Towns of Come By Chance, Wabush and Burin are the winners of the Municipal Government Carbon Footprint Challenge contest for their innovative ideas on how to improve upon the impact their communities have on climate change.
“Each winner proposed innovative ways to save energy, lower greenhouse
gas emissions, and reduce their own operating costs. These ideas reflect
responsible decisions and are in line with our government’s commitment to
plan and prepare for climate change events.”

Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Emissions Trading.
The Town of Come By Chance commited to increasing the number of recycling bins in municipal buildings, installing energy-efficient lighting, and promoting more energy-efficient driving habits. The Town of Wabush’s submission included energy savings from installing programmable thermostats in town buildings and installing timed lighting controls on streetlights. The Town of Burin plans to winterize one of its buildings containing town artifacts reducing the yearly oil bill substantially.

municipal leaders to get involved with their own initiatives in the future.”
