Tentative Agreement Reached with NAPE
The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, today announced the Provincial Government has reached a tentative agreement with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE).
The tentative four-year agreement includes a five per cent salary increase over the term of the agreement. It consists of zero per cent salary increase in years one and two of the agreement, two per cent in year three and three per cent in year four. In addition, each full-time employee will receive a signing bonus of $1,400 in year two of the agreement. The contracts expire in 2016.
“We are pleased to reach an agreement that is both fiscally responsible and will benefit the thousands of public employees who work for the people of this province,” said Premier Dunderdale. “These employees provide numerous high-quality programs and services for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in a professional and dedicated manner, and I am pleased we were able to reach an agreement that recognizes the important contribution they continue to make each and every day.”
The deal will be voted on by NAPE members in the coming weeks.
“This tentative agreement is fiscally responsible, respects public service workers and is in line with our commitment to moving our province forward in a manner which sustains and improves services to the people of the province,” said Minister Kennedy. “Achieving these types of agreements requires hard work and commitment and I would like to recognize and thank all individuals involved in the bargaining process.”
