Application Deadline Approaching for Grants to Youth Organizations

The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, reminds the public the deadline for applications under the Grants to Youth Organizations program is Friday, May 10.

“Our youth are the key to Newfoundland and Labrador’s future prosperity,” said Minister Hutchings. “In order for them to grow and contribute, we must equip them with important skills and facilitate valuable learning and mentoring experiences today. The Grants to Youth Organizations program is designed to achieve this goal by supporting programs and initiatives that directly impact and target our young people.”

There are two types of grants available: special project grants that provide funding for the provision of a specific service or event; and program grants, which make a contribution to support the development/delivery of new or existing organizational programs. Regardless of type, applications will be assessed based on a number of criteria including purpose and structure of program or activity, the degree to which the effort will effectively engage youth, and the likelihood that an initiative will address a gap in a community service.

“This administration is committed to the advancement and development of our youth,” said Minister Hutchings. “Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, the Office of Public Engagement is investing over $3,700,000 in organizations, programs and services such Community Youth Networks and the Getting the Message Out Program, to create opportunities, educate, engage and unlock the innovative and entrepreneurial potential of our young people. We will continue to build upon our accomplishments and form strong collaborations for the benefit our youth and for Newfoundland and Labrador.
