Sustainable Investments Secure a Strong Future for Labrador

All regions of Labrador will continue to benefit through sustainable investments in Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future that reflect priorities identified by Labradorians. By the end of the 2013-14 fiscal year, spending in Labrador through the Northern Strategic Plan and other Labrador-related investments will have exceeded $4 billion since 2004, including an unprecedented investment of approximately $450 million to build the Trans Labrador Highway.

“Through strategic initiatives such as the Northern Strategic Plan and our commitment to developing the Muskrat Falls project, which will bring significant economic and employment benefits for Labradorians, our government is contributing to a vibrant Labrador economy, stronger families and communities, and laying a solid foundation for further success,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “Since 2004, an unprecedented investment of over $4 billion is benefiting people, organizations and businesses throughout the region. This year we are continuing to invest wisely in Labrador – balancing the need for fiscal restraint with our commitment to move the needs of Labradorians further forward.”

Budget 2013 investments continue to foster healthy and supportive communities throughout Labrador by advancing healthcare, education, transportation and community infrastructure, and supporting initiatives for youth, Aboriginal women, and those living in isolated coastal communities.

“Our government is moving forward with a strong fiscal plan, aimed at balancing priorities through responsible investments, to help ensure a prosperous future for our children and grandchildren,” said Minister McGrath. “As a result, Labrador is helping to shape our province’s future.”
