Premier Acknowledges Strong Support for Ovations

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, acknowledged the many sponsors of Ovations: Applauding the Accomplishments of Women in Our Communities held yesterday (Thursday, January 17).

“What an exciting night for women in our province,” said Premier Dunderdale. “Yesterday’s event was one like no other as it provided our government with the opportunity to bring together women from all areas of the province and from various backgrounds to recognize and celebrate their accomplishments.”

While the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador hosted Ovations, both the forum and celebration dinner were made possible through the support of over a dozen sponsors from business, industry and corporate sectors. The presenting partner for the overall event was the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC); and the forum sponsor was Ernst & Young. Other contributing sponsors ranging from platinum to bronze levels included: Nalcor, ExxonMobil, Suncor Energy, Provincial Airlines, Husky Energy, CIBC, Statoil, Emera Newfoundland and Labrador, Long Harbour Employers Association, Pennecon, Fortis Properties, Chevron, Stewart McKelvey, and Stantec. The event also included two media sponsors: VOCM and Transcontinental Media.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our presenting partner IOC and the many other sponsors that helped make this one-of-a-kind event focused solely on women become a reality,” said Premier Dunderdale. “These generous sponsors funded the entire event, an event that surely will be remembered for many years to come.”

Along with financial support from sponsors for Ovations, an organizing committee comprising representatives from the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women; the Women’s Policy Office and Executive Council of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador; Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women Entrepreneurs; and members of private sector all worked together closely to ensure the overall success of the event.
