Premier Announces Senior Appointments
The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced the following senior appointments:
Udloriak Hanson has been appointed Senior Advisor for Aboriginal Issues and Arctic Economic Opportunities, Executive Council, effective January 16.
H. Maxwell (Max) Harvey has been appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Marine Services) with the Department of Transportation and Works. Mr. Harvey’s appointment is effective January 21.
Ross Reid has been appointed Deputy Minister Responsible for the Population Growth Strategy. This appointment was effective December 17.
“I offer congratulations to Ms. Hanson, Mr. Harvey and Mr. Reid on their appointments,” said Premier Dunderdale. “These individuals bring with them a wealth of experience and expertise in various fields. I wish them all the best as they take on their new senior roles within the public service.”

BACKGROUNDER
Biographical Information
Udloriak Hanson
Ms. Hanson previously served as Special Advisor to Mary Simon, President of
Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK), and was acting Executive Director of ITK, the
national organization representing Inuit from Nunavut, Nunavik (Northern
Quebec), Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador) and the Inuvialuit Settlement
Region of the Northwest Territories. She was Executive Director of
Qaujisaqtiit Society and Senior Policy Liaison for Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI),
the land claims organization representing Nunavut Inuit. She is on the Board
of Directors for Actua and is the Arctic Peoples and Security co-chair for
the Munk-Gordon Arctic Security Program. Ms. Hanson holds a Bachelor of
Education degree from Brock University as well as a Bachelor of Business
Administration degree from Okanagan University College.
Max Harvey
Mr. Harvey has over 30 years experience in the marine industry and in
project management. At sea with the Royal Canadian Navy, he had numerous
deployments as watchkeeper, navigator, training officer, operations officer,
and as captain. Ashore, he has supported the ships as fleet scheduler, naval
school instructor, and international exercise planner. Mr. Harvey served as
the Operational Requirements department head in Ottawa for the build of 12
Maritime Coastal Defence vessels. He has been Commanding Officer of a number
of units throughout Canada, including the naval reserve division HMCS CABOT
in St. John's. Recently Mr. Harvey has been engaged as the national lead for
a number of projects for the Royal Canadian Navy. Beyond his marine
credentials, Mr. Harvey has been active as a Returning Officer (St. John's
South-Mount Pearl) and later as Field Liaison Officer (NL) for Elections
Canada. Active as a volunteer in the community, he served, and continues to
serve, on a number of boards and committees. He was recently awarded the
Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for his naval and community contribution.
Mr. Harvey holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, a Canadian Forces College diploma, and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University. He holds a Certified Human Resource Professional designation.
Ross Reid
Mr. Reid has mostly recently served as the Deputy Minister for the Voluntary
and Non-Profit Sector with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. From
November 2003 to January 2007, Mr. Reid served as Deputy Minister to the
Premier. Prior to this, he was with the National Democratic Institute for
International Affairs in Ukraine, Ghana, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. Mr. Reid
has advised on and conducted democratic development programs in more than 25
countries in Asia, Africa and Europe with a focus on political parties,
elections, parliaments and civil society. A former Member of Parliament and
Cabinet minister representing Newfoundland and Labrador in the Government of
Canada, Mr. Reid has served as Chief of Staff to the federal Minister of
Finance and as advisor to the Prime Minister.
