Media Advisory: Premier to Host Ovations

On Thursday, January 17, the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will host an event like no other for women in the province. Ovations: Applauding the Accomplishments of Women in Our Communities will include both a forum and evening dinner celebration.

Premier Dunderdale will open the forum at 1 p.m. at the Delta St. John’s with welcoming remarks followed by greetings from the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women and a keynote address by Zoë Yujnovich, President and CEO of IOC. It will also include a panel of outstanding women leaders from all sectors: Hilda Broomfiled-Letemplier, President of Pressure Pipe Steel Fabrication Ltd.; Maisie Clark, Mayor of Campbellton; Nora Duke, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Properties; Susan Knight, Chancellor of Memorial University of Newfoundland; Jillian Peddle, 2012 Canadian Red Cross Young Humanitarian for Newfoundland and Labrador; Jackie Thompson, Executive Director of Status of Women Central; and, Anne Whelan, President and CEO of Seafair Capital Inc.

The evening dinner celebration will commence at 7:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Convention Centre and include a keynote address by Premier Dunderdale as well as an announcement. The Premier will speak at approximately 8:00 p.m.

Produced by the acclaimed Danielle Irvine, the evening will also feature some of the top performers in Newfoundland and Labrador, including Krystin Pellerin, from the television series Republic of Doyle as emcee, Kelly-Ann Evans, Anahareo Doelle, Amy House, and many others.
