The following is being distributed at the request of His Honour, the Honourable John Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador:

Nominations Sought for the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable John Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and Chancellor of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador, today reminded the public that the deadline to nominate an individual for the prestigious Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is January 31, 2013.

“The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is bestowed upon those whose significant contributions enrich the lives of others each and every day,” said His Honour. “The Order is a special way to formally recognize an individual’s achievement in enhancing the cultural and social well-being of our province.”

With 2004 marking the first investiture, the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province. The object of the Order is to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavor benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents.

“Our communities, our people and our province are better because of the passion and commitment demonstrated by the individuals inducted into the Order to date,” said the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. ‘This year’s recipients will join this illustrious group and I encourage all residents to take the time to nominate an individual they feel deserving of this immense honour. What better way to say ‘thank you’ than to ensure that a deserving person’s name will be preserved as part of the great history of this province.”

Inducted on October 16, 2012, the most recent recipients of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador are Janet Cox, Tom Dawe, Freida Faour, John (Jack) Ford, Mary Dyer Gordon, Constance Howley, Captain Sidney Hynes, and Susan (Fran) Williams.

Nominations will be accepted until January 31, 2013. Any person or group may nominate an individual for recognition by the Order. The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador Advisory Council selects members to be invested into the Order after considering all nominations received.
