Ensuring Maximum Benefits for Healthy Families and Vibrant Communities

Record Number of Recreational Lots Offered in 2013

The Provincial Government offered a record $5.9 million worth of recreational cottage lots this year to the people of the province through its regional Crown land public draw system.

The lots offered this year are located on the west coast at Bonne Bay Big Pond, Grand Lake, Sandy Lake, and Birchy Lake and on the Avalon Peninsula on Salmonier Line. The lots ranged in price from approximately $11,000 to $65,000.

“The demand for recreational lots is increasing and we’ve answered that demand by offering more Crown land for sale while ensuring we are doing so in a manner that is responsible and fair. Crown land is an extremely valuable resource that we will continue to manage wisely.”
- The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Environment and Conservation

Each lot is obtained through a strict process which requires interested parties to participate in a public draw.

The Department of Environment and Conservations processes approximately 4,000 applications for Crown land on an annual basis to meet the social and economic development needs of the public and private sectors.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
