Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Black Duck Siding (Dhoon Lodge) RV Resort (Reg. 1722)
Proponent: Dhoon Lodge

The proponent plans to construct and operate a 32-site fully-serviced recreational vehicle (RV) camping facility adjacent to the existing Dhoon Lodge near Black Duck Siding and Harry’s River in western Newfoundland. The proposed location is approximately five kilometres east from Stephenville Crossing and 12 kilometres north of the Trans Canada Highway. Access to the RV resort will be via an existing gravel road which will be upgraded. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013, concluding in the spring of 2014.

The undertaking was registered on August 30, 2013; the deadline for public comments is October 8, 2013; and the minister’s decision is due by October 14, 2013.

Moosehead Lake (Labrador West) Rock Quarry (Reg. 1723)
Proponent: H&H Enterprises Ltd.

The proponent proposes to develop a five hectare quarry approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Moosehead Lake in Labrador West. The project is located 14 kilometres east of Labrador City, and, will include an access road 0.5 kilometres south of kilometre 34 on Route 500 (Trans Labrador Highway). Development of the open pit quarry will produce crushed rock for the construction industry and ballast for the railway in Western Labrador. Processing at the site will consist of drilling, blasting, crushing and screening.

The undertaking was registered on September 3, 2013; the deadline for public comments is October 8, 2013; and the minister’s decision is due by October 18, 2013.
