Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT SUBMITTED:

Argentia Wellhead Platform for White Rose Extension (Reg. 1665)
Proponent: Husky Energy

The proponent has submitted the environmental assessment (EA) report for the White Rose Extension Project. A single harmonized environmental assessment is being conducted by the province and the Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) in order to fulfill the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.

The EA report submitted by the proponent is in response to the requirement for an Environmental Preview Report issued by the Minister of Environment and Conservation on November 13, 2012 for the Argentia Peninsula and Placentia Bay portion of the project. A screening level assessment by the C-NLOPB is being conducted on the entire project.

To facilitate public participation the EA report is available on the C-NLOPB’s web site at www.cnlopb.nl.ca   (CEAR 12-01-68249).

The Minister of Environment and Conservation invites the public to review the EA report and submit written comments by February 6, 2013. Please send comments to:

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Northern Arm Sod and Vegetable Farm (Reg. 1685)
Proponent: Sunshine Investments Inc.

The proponent intends to develop approximately 244 hectares of land to be used to grow sods and vegetable crops. The site is located inside the municipal planning area of the Town of Northern Arm. Land suitable for these crops will be developed over a period of seven to 10 years, land deemed not suitable will be left in its natural state. This is an extension to an existing farm. Development is proposed to begin in April 2013, upon receipt of all required permits and approvals.

The undertaking was registered on December 27, 2012; the deadline for public comments is February 6, 2013; and the minister’s decision is due by February 10, 2013.
