Media Advisory: Minister to Participate in Student Leadership Conference
The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education, will be at Gander Collegiate tomorrow evening (Thursday, October 17) to join students from throughout Newfoundland and Labrador for the launch of the annual Provincial Student Leadership Conference. The theme of this year’s conference is “Leadership Takes Flight”. The event begins at 7:30 p.m.
“The energy and enthusiasm displayed by our young people at these leadership conferences each year is incredible to witness,” said Minister Jackman. “These students are leaders in their schools; they are role models for their fellow students, and they are the future generation of leaders in our communities, in our province, and in our country. I look forward to talking to them, listening to them, and taking part in some of the conference events.”
The Provincial Government has provided financial and other support, through the Department of Education and the Office of Public Engagement, to help offset the cost of convention activities. More than 450 students and teachers are participating in the event.
“Our staff has worked closely with conference volunteers to design a number of interactive dialogue sessions that will allow young people to voice their opinions on issues that are important to them,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement. “This type of feedback provides government with perspectives from young people, the future leaders of our province, and will provide good insight as we move forward with initiatives in support of youth.”
