The following is being released at the request of the Provincial School Board Transition Committee:

Provincial School District CEO-Designate Named

Darrin Pike, a long-time K-12 educator and administrator, has been named the CEO/Director of Education-designate of the new provincial English-language school district, which will come into effect September 1, 2013. The announcement was made today by Lorne Wheeler, Chair of the Provincial School Board Transition Committee established to oversee school board consolidation.

“The transition committee is very pleased to have the benefit of Mr. Pike’s experience and expertise as we move forward with the school board consolidation process," said Mr. Wheeler. “He has a wealth of knowledge of the K-12 education system in Newfoundland and Labrador which will no doubt serve us well in the months ahead, and in September, when the new provincial school board comes into effect.”

Mr. Pike, a native of Gander, is a former teacher, high school principal, school district administrator and Deputy Minister of Education. He has most recently served as Deputy Minister of Advanced Education and Skills with the Provincial Government. Further biographical information is in the backgrounder below.

“We are very fortunate to have an individual with Mr. Pike's wide range of experience to lead the new provincial school district,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education.  “He has been involved in virtually every aspect of K-12 education over the years – at the school, school district and department level – and is an excellent choice to move the Newfoundland and Labrador education system into the future.”

The Provincial Government announced earlier this spring that there would be one provincial English-language school board, effective September 1, 2013. The four existing English school boards will remain in place until that time.
