Strengthening Families and Communities Through Child Care Investments
Over $39,500 Invested in Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation and Early Childhood Educators Human Resource Council
During a visit to the Vista Family Resource Centre in Bonavista today, the
Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, was
joined by Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South, as well as families, early
childhood educators and representatives of the Tip-A-Vista Wellness
Foundation to announce an investment of over $39,500 to strengthen child
care services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Providing quality, accessible and affordable child care to families with
young children remains a key priority for our government. Given the
identified need for child care in Bonavista, an investment of up to $24,860
in developmental funding will be provided to the Tip-A-Vista Wellness
Foundation to complete the architectural design phase associated with
creating a new child care centre in the community.”
- The Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services
Today’s funding is in addition to an earlier Provincial Government
investment, announced in February 2013, of over $13,500 in developmental
funding for the Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation to begin exploring child
care opportunities in Bonavista.
“This investment will provide Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation the
opportunity to complete the initial phase to establish a much needed child
care centre for Bonavista and surrounding communities. It is a very exciting
day in the District of Bonavista South as this funding will help to address
a very real need identified by families in the area.”
- Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South
Through the Child Care Capacity Initiative, the Provincial Government
provides start-up and operating grants for non-profit community-based
organizations, such as the Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation, to aid in the
creation of more regulated child care spaces throughout the province.
“The Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation is pleased to receive funding from the
Department of Child, Youth and Family Services to obtain architectural
drawings for a licensed child care center in our community. This funding
will help us assess what work is required to convert a historical building
to a modern child care centre.”
- Eliza Swyers, Co-Chair, Tip-A-Vista Wellness Foundation
In addition, Minister Davis announced an investment of $14,670 in funding
for the Early Childhood Educators Human Resource Council to deliver two
human resource management training workshops for program operators and Level
II early childhood educators. This brings the total Provincial Government
investment for the Council to deliver such initiatives to approximately
$64,000. By working collaboratively with the Council, the Provincial
Government remains committed to enhancing the recruitment and retention of
staff in the child care sector.
“The Early Childhood Educators Human Resource Council is pleased to receive
the ongoing support of the Provincial Government to offer human resource
management workshops throughout the province. In the coming months, we will
deliver two workshops to provide up to 80 participants with the opportunity
to strengthen their management and leadership practices in child care.”
- Joanne Morris, Chairperson of the Early Childhood Educators Human Resource
Council
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting
