Employment Services Delivering Results
Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador

New changes in the way employment services are delivered in Newfoundland and Labrador are resulting in improved supports, more effective online services, and better, more efficient results for clients, the Provincial Government announced today.

“Since changing our service delivery on June 1, we have made it easier for people to access employment opportunities and ensure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in every region and community are able to contribute to the province’s prosperity,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, acting Minister of Advanced Education and Skills. “We’ve had 1,346 applications for services, over 1,200 calls to our hotline, and 330 people have completed online workshops – all of which tells us that people are utilizing our services.”

A suite of new training tools and workshops to assist people in job searches and supports is now available online at www.aes.gov.nl.ca. Further career planning information is available by calling 1-800-563-6600.

With a growing demand for labour, fuelled in large part by major developments such as Muskrat Falls, there is also a renewed focus on delivering extensive employment services in Labrador. Improvements will be made in Nain, Hopedale and Mary’s Harbour, where the department is recruiting for a Career Development Specialist to assist and guide individuals as they explore career, training and employment opportunities.

Minister O’Brien also noted that the department’s enhanced employment services and education supports will continue when final details on the new delivery model for Adult Basic Education are announced in the coming weeks.

“Whether it’s through our network of employment centres, dedicated telephone support, or enhanced online services, we are improving the way people access services, regardless of location and circumstances,” said Minister O’Brien.
