Bridge Investment Continues With Replacement Project in Bellburns

The bridge at Bellburns, Route 430-26, will be replaced with a new structure as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues its investment in roads and bridges throughout the province.

“This project is another example of the work being completed to ensure our road and bridge infrastructure continues to meet the needs of our communities,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “We have been able to address bridge work in all corners of our province this construction season, which in turn enhances our provincial transportation network overall.”

A tender has been called for the project that will see the construction of a single-lane panel bridge to replace the current timber-deck bridge. Through traffic on Route 430-26 through the community of Bellburns cannot be accommodated while this project proceeds. Drivers may detour around the project via Route 430.

The Department of Transportation and Works maintains more than 800 bridges throughout the provincial highway system and has invested more than $200 million on bridge infrastructure since 2004.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
