Western Newfoundland Sees Continued Road Repairs
The Department of Transportation and Works continues its annual maintenance of the Trans Canada Highway and provincial highways this season with repairs to road culverts in western Newfoundland.
“The ongoing maintenance of our highway infrastructure is key to ensuring our transportation system meets the social and economic needs of the province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “This type of culvert replacement and repair work keeps the foundations of our roadways strong, which sustains our provincial road network for the long term.”
A tender has been called that includes the replacement of culverts on the Trans Canada Highway near Whites Road interchange near Coal Brook, and at the Route 460 interchange.
“I am pleased to see continued road work in our region,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills and MHA for St. George’s - Stephenville East. “This government is committed to investing in highway infrastructure to ensure important community links are well-maintained throughout the province.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
