Repairs Planned for Allan’s Island Causeway

Repairs to infrastructure on the Burin Peninsula are scheduled as part of the annual Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

“We are moving ahead with important road improvement work on the Burin Peninsula this construction season,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “The work in this tender will help ensure that the Allan’s Island Causeway, an important transportation link in the area, is properly maintained for the benefit of those travelling in the region.”

A tender has been called for the enhancement of rock fill and armour stone on sections of the Allan’s Island Causeway. Also included in the tender are repairs to a large culvert on Route 220 at Lawn River.

“Road maintenance in rural areas of the province is a priority for this government,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Grand Bank. “This work will help ensure the transportation network in the region will continue to serve communities well.”

Repairs to the stabilizing materials of a large culvert at Rattle Brook on Route 215 are also included in the tender.

“Preserving our roads through annual maintenance work is vital to the upkeep of our transportation network,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West. “I am pleased this project will be completed, as it will help ensure the integrity of this structure and the Petit Forte Road.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
