Work Scheduled for Flat Bay Road and Burgeo Road

More road improvements are scheduled for western Newfoundland as the Provincial Government continues to advance its annual roads program.

“This road work will help maintain key transportation links for residents in rural communities throughout the western region,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “There are more than 9,000 kilometres of provincial roads throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and every year this government makes investments to improve community access roads that connect to main thoroughfares like the Trans Canada Highway.”

Sections of Route 403, Flat Bay Road will be repaved as part of a recently called tender.

“I am pleased this road work will be completed this construction season,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills and MHA for St. George’s - Stephenville East. “Flat Bay Road is an important link for the community, and so these enhancements will be beneficial for the residents in the area.”

Also included is paving a section of approximately 600 metres of Route 480, Burgeo Road.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
