Investments Made in Labrador Road and Bridge Maintenance
As part of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s multi-year infrastructure investments valued at more than $5 billion, the Department of Transportation and Works continues to maintain the province’s highways and bridges with tenders for road and bridge work in Labrador.
“Over the past eight years, this government has invested more than $200 million in bridge infrastructure throughout the province, and this investment continues this construction season with tenders for repairs and maintenance,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “There are more than 800 bridges along our provincial highways, and maintenance work is vital to ensuring an efficient transportation system.”
Work will be completed on St. Lewis River bridge, Route 510; Alexis River bridge, Route 510; Beaver Brook bridge, Route 516; and, St. Mary’s River bridge, Mary’s Harbour. A separate tender will include supplying, distributing and grading granular material on sections of Route 510 over a distance of approximately 55 kilometres between the Department of Transportation and Works equipment shelter and St. Lewis Inlet.
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
