Conception Bay South Bypass Work Continues
The development of the Conception Bay South (CBS) bypass extension continues this summer with a tender call for the construction of an overpass at Butler’s Pit Road.
“The CBS bypass is an integral piece of the transportation network in the region,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “The Avalon Peninsula sees the highest daily traffic volumes in the province, and once complete, the CBS bypass extension will help enhance the transportation infrastructure in the region to the benefit of all who travel these roads.”
Work will include the construction of a 42.7 metre single lane panel bridge on concrete abutments over the CBS bypass at Butler’s Pit Road. Traffic flow on the road will not be impacted during construction. Butler’s Pit Road will be realigned to meet the overpass as part of this project.
“I am pleased to see work continuing this season on the CBS bypass extension project,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Conception Bay South. “Our government is committed to meeting the changing traffic needs in our region, and the CBS bypass is an important part of our efforts to address traffic flow.”
The CBS bypass extension is cost-shared by the provincial and federal governments through the Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund. This project is included among the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s unprecedented multi-year infrastructure investments valued in excess of $5 billion.
