Road Enhancements to Take Place at Marysvale and Paddy’s Pond

Substantial road improvements will be carried out on the Northeast Avalon region the summer as the Provincial Government continues its annual Roads Improvement Program with a tender call for roadwork near Marysvale and the Paddy’s Pond Interchange.

“This work will see important road upgrades carried out over the course of the summer to the benefit of our communities,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “The projects covered by this tender are further evidence of the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing transportation infrastructure that meets the needs of residents throughout the province.”

The tender will include repaving of approximately 2.6 kilometres of Long Pond Road, culvert repairs at Three Island Pond Brook, as well as pavement upgrades in specific areas near the interchange.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, which involves $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
