Rut Repair Scheduled for High-Traffic Avalon Region

Major traffic routes on the Avalon Peninsula will undergo roadwork this construction season as the Department of Transportation and Works continues annual maintenance through the Provincial Roads Improvement Program.

“The routes addressed in this tender are among the highest traffic areas in our province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “This project will see sections of highway across the region repaved, improving the condition of the asphalt to the benefit of the thousands of commuters who travel these roads every day.”

A tender has been called for the repaving of approximately 8.7 lane kilometres of the Outer Ring Road from Torbay Road to Kenmount Road, approximately 10 lane kilometres of the Trans Canada Highway between Route 2 interchange and Foxtrap and approximately 6.8 lane kilometres of Route 2 from Kilbride to Fowlers Road.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
